How does online tutoring work?

All you will need is access to high speed internet and a computer with a webcam. To “meet” we will use the video conferencing software Zoom and the online whiteboard software BitPaper. Included with your Welcome Packet will be detailed instructions on how to set everything up and join our first meeting.

Will online tutoring work for my student?

Having tutored students in person for more than 4 years, I the transition to online tutoring has gone smoothly. In fact many students prefer this option - it allows for more flexible meeting times and cuts out their commute to and from sessions.

How will we communicate?

I like to communicate with parents using the Voxer app. It's free and works a lot like text messaging but you can also leave voice messages. This is a great way to give you instant feedback on your student's progress and for you to ask any questions you have. I don't spend all day on my computer so it can take me a a day to get back to an email.

When working with a student that requires homework, I often utilize Microsoft OneNote. This is another free program but does require you to set up an account. I love using this program because it allows me to annotate their homework so students have feedback more frequently than once a week. It also is an amazing organization tool that students can use in college for keeping track of all of their class notes.

I have over a decade of teaching experience, both in the classroom and working as a private tutor. I understand each student’s needs are unique.

My mission when tutoring students is for them to not only learn the concepts but to grow in their confidence and be empowered to take charge by asking questions and diving deeper into their studies. I strive to make sure each of my students receives personalized instruction. I only tutor students one-on-one to allow me to focus on your student’s needs.

How often will you meet with my student?

I meet with students either once or twice a week. After our consultation call, I will provide my recommendation on how often we should meet. Ultimately though, as the parent you can decide - you are the expert on your student!

How long is a Math or Science curriculum tutoring session?

Each session lasts 45-55 minutes. I do not provide a set time because in my experience sometimes we need a few extra minutes to review a concept and other times it won’t make sense to start a new topic with only 5 minutes remaining. I aim for our sessions to be 50 minutes in length.

How long is a Test Prep tutoring session?

Should my student take the ACT or SAT?

This is different for each student. In general I see the majority of my students having the most success on the ACT but that isn't true for everyone. If you and your student are uncertain which test they should be taking our first step will be to take a practice test in each and evaluate their prefermance. Do you offer discounts?

I offer a 10% discount for siblings if they are both receiving tutoring services; they do not need to be covering the same subject.

As a private tutor and business owner, I am responsible for all the costs of operating my business. For this reason, I have set fair and consistent rates. I do understand that these rates may not fit within everyone’s budget. I encourage you to follow my Facebook page to access FREE tips and strategies.

How does payment work?

I collect all of my payments electronically through Wave. Details are provided within your Welcome Packet.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session for any reason please do so at least 24 hours prior to our scheduled session. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours may not be reschedule and will not be refunded. Exceptions may be made in case of emergency.

What is your no-show policy?

If you know that your child will be late to our appointment for any reason please let me know as soon as possible. If a student does not arrive within 10 minutes of a schedule appointment time they will be considered a “no-show”. This is treated the same as a late cancellation and this session cannot be rescheduled. A refund for this session will not be provided. Time missed due to a late arrival will not be made up.

How do I reschedule a session?

To reschedule a session you have 2 options. You can reschedule to another time by using the link provided in the scheduling email. Otherwise, clients are welcome to email me and I can adjust our schedule. I ask that you give at least 24 hours notice. With sessions being pre-paid, your credit will be applied towards your next scheduled session.

What about planned absences?

It’s okay for you to miss a session here and there for planned activities - vacations, medical appointments, sports schedules, etc. Please let me know at least two weeks in advance so I can adjust our schedule accordingly.
